Certificate in Music Theory and Composition
Resonance School of Music now offers online students the opportunity to complete an online certificate in Music Theory and Composition with us using our online platform. Students can start and stop at any time in order to complete the required courses. Students will need to register with us before entering the courses in order to receive credit. Private help is also available to any student who needs it through LIVE video conference with our in-house music theorist.
About The Courses
The online theory classes at Resonance School of Music offer comprehensive and more intense training in music. These courses offer our students a top-tier training in music theory, history, and composition. Students are able to take classes in order to cultivate their skills and become a more fluent musician. These classes are great for instrumentalists and vocalists that are trying to continue with a professional career in the arts. Each online class is built into a 13-week module, however, there is no time limit to complete the program. All students need to test out of a course before taking the next level in the series. Students taking online courses will be required to post-test scores to their Resonance Student Portals in Canvas. Students who complete the requirements in each field below will be awarded a Certificate in Music Theory and Composition. The Online Track to these courses is taught in four modules. All the modules must be completed in order to achieve a certificate. Each course is taught by a member of our faculty, and every student has the opportunity to access help from a faculty member.
Four Courses In Total
Dr. Jason Allen – Lecturer /Ph.D. in Music Theory and Composition.
Dr. Allen teaches at Augsburg University in Minneapolis, MN, where he runs the Music, Media, and Management program. He is also an Ableton Live Certified Trainer, co-founder, owner and CEO of Slam Academy, a multimedia educational space in downtown Minneapolis, the CTO of Ion Concert Media, and sole owner and producer of music education courses under the umbrella of Punkademic Courses. Recently, Allen founded Hackademica – an innovative net-label for new music.
Vincent Gattinella – Course Curator/ BM. Music Theory and Composition.
Vince Gattinella is a Director and Drum/ Theory instructor at Resonance School of Music in South Jersey. Mr. Gattinella is also an avid digital music composer and arranger. His compositions also include writing for classical ensembles and marching bands. In this course, he will be one of your point of contacts.
Christopher Flaherty – Course Teaching Assistance/ Pianist/Composer and Teacher.
Christopher Flaherty is the acting Director of Education for the Resonance School of Music. He is a proficient educator with over ten years of private music teaching experience. Mr. Flaherty will be acting as the head grader for this course, and the point of contact of all registered students. Among his teaching credits, Mr. Flaherty also studied music theory and composition and has written music for multiple styles. His favorite medium to write for is string quartets and small chamber ensembles.
Music Theory I
A complete course in the basics of music theory. We will discuss notes, rhythms, chords, key signatures and cover concepts in music history.
Music Theory II
Music Theory II offers a look at the content from Theory I but from an Aural point of view. This course is heavy in ear training but moves fast. We will continue your historical concepts while diving into harmonic analysis.
Music Theory III
This course starts with your first experiences in composing. We will continue with 20th-century music and also cement your music reading abilities. In this course, we will also focus on some of the more obscure theories.
Music Theory IV
Music Theory IV will be a class that prepares you to graduate our programs. We will work on identifying scales and chords by ear. We will also finish up the composition requirements of the courses.
Each Course costs $200.00. There are no additional fees unless extensive private tutoring is necessary. Our courses are taught in English only. We only accept 10 students each month. After this cap is met we move every prospect to our waitlists. You can apply for the program below. Once accepted to a spot. You will be asked to pay for your course ahead of your first day. Partial payments will not be accepted.
